Global Policies Support The Development Of Biodegradable Plastics Asia Is Expected To Become The Largest Consumer Market

In 2014 and 2015, the United Nations Environment and Climate Conference listed plastic pollution, especially in the ocean, as an important topic.In 2018, the European Commission published the Plastics Strategy in the European Circular Economy, which stipulated that more than half of the plastic waste in the EU market should be recycled by 2030.

By the end of 2020, a total of 87 countries and regions around the world have adopted different measures to limit plastic, of which 15 have banned it.

A number of countries in the Asian region, including China, Pakistan, India, the Philippines, Thailand and Algeria, have issued restrictions on plastic bags from 2019 to 2020.In the coming period, the demand for biodegradable plastics in Asia will grow rapidly and is expected to replace Europe as the largest consumer market for biodegradable plastics.

There are the following differences in banning plastic in China and abroad:

(1) To promote the use of degradable plastics, foreign countries mainly through tax regulation, and domestic rely on policy enforcement;

(2) From the perspective of plastic pollution, the EU attaches importance to the plastic pollution in the whole natural domain including the ocean, while China mainly focuses on the plastic pollution in soil and land environment;

(3) In terms of the structure of degradable plastic products, overseas are mainly plastic bag packaging products and leisure products such as fishing tackle, while China is mainly plastic packaging bag, take away box and plastic film.
