Asia Will Lead The World With 45 Per Cent Of New Polyethylene Capacity

GlobalData, a leading data analytics firm, estimates that Asia will lead the global growth in polyethylene capacity between 2021 and 2026 with a 45% share.


GlobalData's latest report, polyethylene Industrial Equipment Capacity and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) forecasts by Region and country, 2021-2026, including details of all plants under Construction, planned and announced projects, shows that Asia will have the largest amount of new polyethylene capacity and expansion of existing polyethylene projects during the forecast period.

Sudarshini Ennelli, oil and gas analyst at GlobalData, said: "For upcoming new polyethylene projects, Asia is expected to add 27 million tonnes of polyethylene capacity per year on top of 67 planned and announced projects."


Ennelli concluded: "India will follow with 8.99 mmtpy of new polyethylene capacity. The three projects with the highest new PE capacity are Haldia Petrochemical's Kakinada PE plant, Haldia Petrochemical's Balasore PE plant and Rajasthan Refinery's Pachpadra PE plant, which will have an annual PE capacity of 1.2 million tonnes, 1.1 million tonnes and 800,000 tonnes respectively."
