Teknor Apex Releases Glass Fiber Reinforced Modified PP For Optimization Of Automotive Urea Tank

Teknor Apex Germany has developed a line of engineered fiberglass filled polypropylene (PP) with elastic modulus of 11,000 MPa and thermal deformation temperature of 160°C (HDT) of 0.45MPa. This means that modified fiberglass filled PP can be used to replace fiberglass filled PA66 and PA6, in order to provide user enterprises with a similar but more economical alternative solution to fiberglass filled PA.

According to the introduction, the material has the following characteristics: the material is easy to process (even using the existing mold); Shrinkage performance is similar to PA; The process is more environmentally friendly, there is no need to dry materials in advance, and the melting temperature, processing temperature, mold temperature are lower than the use of PA; Excellent dimensional stability (no moisture absorption); Heat aging (130°C/3000 hours) and stable under ULTRAVIOLET light; Excellent appearance quality; Laser marking capability.

At present, this material has been used in Mercedes car urea (AdBlue) liquid tank lid, replacing the original PA66 GF30 material. In fuel vehicles, the role of urea tank is mainly used to treat the exhaust emissions of nitrogen oxides in the storage of urea solution.
